I had the meatloaf, which was mostly a texture and not flavor, except for the ketchup-based sauce. My wife had the chicken fried steak where the only noticeable "spice" in the breading was salt. If you want chicken fried steak, go next door to Cheddar's.
They have a unique all-you-can-eat system where they don't provide a menu. We mistakenly thought the dessert was included (and I think this is a deliberate ploy) and ordered peach cobbler with ice cream. The cobbler, with very little sweetness, some cinnamon, two small slices of peach, and a lot of crust, was $5 each. The ice cream was an additional $2. Do yourself a favor and drive up to Latin Cafe for the tres leches instead, which is delicious and half the price.
I don't understand any low reviews! Wait staff is cheerful and on top of it and more imoirtantly, the food is great! Come hungry or bring friends! The portions are plentiful!
The entree was shy of $15, which is a good deal for the quantity of food (the portions are huge), but not for the quality. Nothing was poorly cooked (the mashed potatoes were lukewarm), but when the vanilla ice cream is the tastiest part of the meal, there's no reason to return. I feel sorry for the staff, who are nice and friendly, but will likely be looking for new jobs in a few months.
Unique dining experience. Food wasn't bad, service was very good, and the value was very good. Both the meatloaf and the fried chicken got yes votes. The amount of food is astounding!
An instant favorite. Plenty of food for the money. And tasty. You will not go home hungry. Yes it's country cooking. Similar to Cracker Barrel or Grandys. The excellent service makes up the difference.
I was with a large group. You choose only the meat you want (not all you can eat) & get various vegetables served in bowls on the table like a family dinner at home. You can eat all the vegetables you want. It's nice to do that once, but too expensive!!! I paid for 3 people, and it cost $59.31 without the tip! They gave me two gigantic pieces of chicken which was seasoned well, but under all the breading & skin was just plain old chicken. My son said he'd go back because the ribs were delicious.... but he wasn't paying $20 a person. ... for chicken or country steak & gravy?! Give me a ribeye someplace else for that price.
The servers were friendly and attentive, but the food was tasteless right from the start. The mix on the Diet Coke was off. The coleslaw tasted vaguely of cabbage but not much else. The candied yams were overwhelmed with cinnamon, and the first flavor I noticed in the creamed corn was the bacon that was mixed in.
